Nicolas Flamel? Something significant about his name?

My friend swears that there was something significant about Nicolas Flamel's name or birthdate in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone. She thinks it was something to do with a play on words or letters. (Like how the saying on the mirror of erised says something backwards, or how "Tom Marvolo Riddle" can be rearranged to say, "I am Lord Voldemort") Anyone know anything about this?
