Putting new tires on my 97 wrangler?

hey guys i have a 1997 2.5l 4cyl jeep wrangler. The whole thing is stock on it right now, the wheels are small on it and i want to put bigger wheels. I know that the rear axle is a dana 35 and i heard they break pretty easily with bigger tires. First question what tires should i get i want to use it for off roading nothing heavy duty a couple of times a month but its mostly going to be for the streets. Also should i be scared that the back axle is going to break or should i not worry about it. Thanks for answering =)
