He talks like he doesn't care either way, but his body language tells me otherwise?

ok, I haven't known this person for a long time at all (a few weeks); he's in a cl of mine at uni, and he seems interested in me on some level, but I am unsure whether or not I'm too close to it to form an unbiased judgement on how to proceed. He makes a point of sitting next to me as a constant, helping me (unasked) with some technical difficulties I have, generally aware of what I'm doing at all times, being friendly and making small-talk. We occasionally pop out for smokes together and he seems quite attentive and interested in what I'm saying, without breaking eye contact, touching my arm etc.. but at the same time, the way he talks to me makes me unsure. He seems too, too casual and sort of either way, which makes me think he isn't into me at all. so is he? or isn't he? any and all answers greatly appreciated.
